We all look for a pleasant, stimulating and dynamic work environment where open communication and teamwork prevails.

A topical subject speaks of the phenomenon of « mindfulness » but there is also the practice of recognition which we often neglect but is nevertheless a powerful lever and very easy to integrate into the daily activities of the operations.

Recognition can be symbolic or monetary. The webinar presented by the ORHRI entitled « La reconnaissance un puissant levier d’engagement » by Marie-Ève Bérubé of Alia Conseil who lists the impacts of recognition in the workplace.

There are many important effects on team members:

1. Increased sense of competence.
2. Increased capacity to grow and improve.
3. Increased level of performance.
4. Increased level of motivation.
5. Increased well-being and satisfaction.
6. Humanize everyday work.

On the other hand, the employer also benefits from:

Positions the organization as an employer of choice.
Increases employee retention.
Mobilizes employees.
Improves organizational performance and efficiency.
Develops a human workplace.

Consequently, the effects related to non-recognition are non-negligible:

→ Reduced engagement and mobilization.
→ An increase in the turnover rate and absenteeism rate.

Thus, the success of a culture of recognition passes through three important factors:

1. The involvement of senior management.
2. Alignment with staff needs.
3. Alignment with business objectives and the creation of a steering committee.

A Lack of recognition is very costly for organizations. The forms of recognition that are either symbolic or non-monetary, are all easier to integrate into the culture and the working environment.

The element of success remains in the interest and the motivation to integrate this practice in the culture. Interestingly, the form of non-monetary recognition is the one that motivates the most!
